Live performance / visual and sonic installation
In collaboration with sound artist Thibault Mechler
35 minutes
TEMPEL Amsterdam
After a two-week production residency, Juliana Zepka and Thibault Mechler present 'The Overview Project' for the first time, the result of a collaboration between archive images of space missions and a sound archive of the Notre-Dame pipe organ in Guebwiller, which was damaged at the time of the recordings. Conceived as a tribute to Godfrey Reggio's Koyaanisqatsi (1982), the film translates a visual aesthetic experience that manipulates the values of time, space and reality. Through an enigmatic and omniscient narrative, like the propaganda speeches and national myths that fuelled the space race, the piece encourages a collective experience to forge common perspectives through the eyes of singular individuals.
The sound piece, which was played live during the first performance at TEMPEL Amsterdam, activates the images through its narrative structure in a game of synchronisation and improvisation.
